BRONX, NY – March 25, 2025 – Bronx NHS Executive Director Gladstone Johnson, alongside leaders from NHS of NYC and NHS of Brooklyn, stood before the City Council yesterday, making a powerful appeal for funding to support the Home Repair Gap Program. Their message was clear: Bronx homeowners—especially seniors—deserve safe, well-maintained homes, and the city must step up to bridge the funding gap.
“For over 30 years, Bronx NHS has been committed to helping low-to-moderate-income residents achieve homeownership and preserve their homes,” said Johnson. “But today, we face an urgent crisis—our borough’s housing stock is aging, and more than 200 seniors are on our waiting list, in need of emergency repairs.”
The coalition is calling for $3 million in City Council funding to launch the NHS of NYC’s Home Repair Gap Program. This initiative would provide $20,000 grants to at least 50 seniors, addressing critical repairs that could mean the difference between a safe home and an unlivable situation.
Bronx NHS has always been a relentless advocate for residents, ensuring that housing remains a pathway to stability rather than a barrier. By joining forces with NHS of NYC and NHS of Brooklyn, they continue to push for real solutions that protect homeowners and strengthen communities.
The advocacy for funding is far from over. But one thing is certain—the team at Bronx NHS remains committed to securing the resources needed to keep seniors safely in their homes.
