About the Role

The Outreach Coordinator will lead efforts to engage and educate the community about the HUD Healthy Home Production Grant Program. This role involves developing and implementing outreach strategies, building relationships with community partners, and recruiting eligible participants. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, experience in community engagement, and a passion for improving housing conditions in underserved communities.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Community Outreach and Engagement:
- Develop and implement outreach strategies to raise awareness about the program and recruit eligible participants.
- Organize and attend community events, such as health fairs, workshops, and neighborhood meetings, to promote the program.
- Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, schools, faith-based groups, and local leaders to expand program reach.

2. Education and Awareness:
- Create and distribute educational materials (e.g., flyers, brochures, social media posts) about healthy housing practices and the benefits of the program.
- Conduct presentations and workshops to educate residents about housing-related health hazards and how to address them.
- Serve as a knowledgeable resource for community members and partners regarding program eligibility and services.

3. Participant Recruitment and Support:
- Identify and engage eligible households through door-to-door outreach, phone calls, and community referrals
- Assist residents with the application process and provide guidance on required documentation.
- Collaborate with the Housing Specialist and Program Manager to ensure a smooth transition for participants into the program.

4. Partnership Development:
- Establish and maintain partnerships with local organizations, government agencies, and health providers to support program goals.
- Coordinate with partners to host joint outreach events and share resources.
- Represent the organization at community meetings and events to advocate for healthy housing initiatives.

5. Data Collection and Reporting:
- Track outreach activities, including the number of contacts made, events attended, and participants recruited.
- Maintain accurate records of community partnerships and outreach efforts.
- Prepare regular reports on outreach outcomes and provide recommendations for improving engagement strategies.

6. Program Promotion:
- Utilize social media, local media outlets, and other communication channels to promote the program and its successes.
- Develop success stories and testimonials to highlight the impact of the program on participants and the community.

This is a contract position funded by the HUD Healthy Homes Production Grant, with an expected duration of 3.5 years. This is a part-time position, starting salary is $20K annually.

Requirements

Education:

High School Diploma. Associates Degree is desirable. Relevant experience may be substituted for education.


Experience:

- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in community outreach, engagement, or a related field.

- Experience working with low-income communities and diverse populations.

- Knowledge of housing issues and health disparities in urban communities is a plus.


Skills:

- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and public speaking skills.

- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and social media platforms.

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.


Other Requirements:

- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is highly desirable.

- Must be willing to work in The Bronx and travel locally as needed.

- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle preferred.
